2023 Welcome Events

Fraternity/Sorority Life Block Party
Thursday, August 17: 6:00 pm
Johnson Field

Join hundreds of other students for the annual Fraternity/Sorority Life Block Party on Johnson Field! This yearly event is a great opportunity to meet other students and learn more about campus life. Look forward to games, music, and multiple food trucks for your first night on campus!

Friday Night Live
Friday, August 18: 7:00 pm
Student Union Building

Join over 2,500 students in the Student Union Building (SUB) from 7:00 – 10:00 pm for the first event of the semester!   The entire building will be full of great events, including games, free food and more.

First-Year Convocation
Sunday, August 20: 4:00 pm
Popejoy Hall

First-Year Convocation is a UNM event which is intended to welcome incoming students and their families to the University Community.  The event will include a ceremony, reception, and class crawl. Don’t forget to sign up at ffd.unm.edu

Class Crawl
Sunday, August 20 (After First Year Convocation)
North of Student Union Building

Class Crawl is an opportunity for new students and their families to discover where their classes will be located at the University of New Mexico Main Campus prior to the first day of classes.  Bring your class schedule, and get ready to meet fellow Lobos!

Movie on the Field
Sunday, August 20: 8:00 pm
Johnson Field

Come watch Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 outside Johnson Field starting at 8:00 pm. Bring a blanket and friends for a "drive-in movie" experience.

Welcome Back Days
August 21-25

Stop by the duck pond and enjoy the many themes associated with each day.  Meet student leaders, administrators, and learn about campus resources.  You can also visit with campus departments and programs, campus communities, and much more!  Enjoy free food and live entertainment.

AAPIRC Welcome Back Pad Thai Social
Wednesday, August 23: 4:00 pm

The Asian American Pacific Islander Resource Center (AAPIRC) welcomes new and returning lobos to enjoy Asian-themed catered food, performances, and games including Mahjong. We will have resource tables featuring student, campus, and community resources and organizations. You will also have the opportunity to learn about AAPIRC’s services and make suggestions for the year.

AASS Welcome Back BBQ
Thursday, August 24: 5:00 pm
Mesa Vista Courtyard

The African American Student Services Welcome Back BBQ invites all new and returning lobos to enjoy food catered by a Black owned business, live DJ and step performance to celebrate the start of the new semester. The event also features an opportunity to learn about campus and community resources.

Lobo Women's Soccer
Thursday, August 24: 7:30 pm
UNM Soccer Complex

Wear your Lobo gear and cheer on Lobo Women’s Soccer as they take on Cal State Fullerton. Bring your Lobo Card to get in free. First 50 students in attendance get a free t-shirt. Also, trivia and giveaways, including Starbucks gift cards.

El Centro Raza Junta

AISS Welcome Back

Join American Indian Student Services (AISS) in welcoming new & returning Lobos to campus! Take advantage of this opportunity to connect with American Indian students, faculty, & staff while enjoying traditional dance performances and light refreshments. College Enrichment Program (CEP) Welcome Back BBQ

Lobo Athletics

Cheer on Football, Soccer, and Volleyball as competition starts in August.  Continue to check golobos.com for upcoming athletic events. UNM students receive free admission to all athletic events and are eligible for a number of student specific events and promotions offered by the Athletics program. GO LOBOS!
